Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained so it can be answered. We keep that communication within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server automatically receives basic technical details about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The referring website, when available
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored by a browser. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how parts of the site work.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Routing a submitted query to the selected partner service
- Keeping pages available and responsive
- Understanding which material visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Lincoln County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official sources such as the Lincoln County Sheriff, the criminal courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention terms, and sharing practices govern information entered there. We do not control those practices, so review a partner's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Lincoln County government, West Virginia courts and agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be received by:
- Analytics providers that measure site use and performance
- Search partners handling a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks serving material on these pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable standard safeguards are used for the data collected. No internet service is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, it will be deleted.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide additional protections. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code Chapter 29B, governs access to public agency records and does not turn this private site into a public custodian. W. Va. Code §15-2-24 separately controls dissemination of State Police fingerprints, photographs, and criminal-history records. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask for a copy of personal information we hold
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
- Request deletion where retention is not legally required

This policy may be revised. Any new version will appear here with a changed effective date, so visitors should review it periodically.
